The major search engines use a relatively unknown feature for quickly indexing and submitting sitemaps: autodiscovery.

See the official website sitemaps.org and watch the announcement to see how you can use autodiscovery to have new pages quickly indexed.

There is also schema.org which helps to define and describe content, and video sitemaps to outline and optimize your videos for better indexing.

I as well as my pals happened to be checking the excellent SEO secrets and rapid ranking techniques to get same day indexing in Google.
